Tracee Ellis Ross’ Pattern Beauty has become one of those rare, always-go-back-to brands that consistently prove their worth. Her curly hair products always manage to leave my hair feeling thick, healthy and rejuvenated. In addition to being reliable, the bottles are large enough to justify the $20+ price tag, and their sunny yellow packaging brings me instant joy.

After my initial review of “Pattern” Beauty, I decided to purchase additional products to see if they produced the same magical effects on my hair as the first round.

Curl Gel

This special gel promises to define, hold, and leave curls shiny. Unsurprisingly, it delivered all three! The consistency of this gel is unique–soft, with a milky texture— compared to other gels that leave a sticky residue on my strands and hands. If you have thin curls that need a boost but are afraid of using gel, you won’t be disappointed with this one! Also, the scent is a beautiful floral combination of Neroli, Rose and Patchouli.

If you need a gel with a stronger hold, you might want to consider using a different product. Although this one leaves your hair bouncy and juicy, its hold wears off after a few days. The gel is advertised as a medium-hold product, but it performs more like a light-hold gel.

This gel contains several nourishing ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil, and Cacay Oil. I’d never heard of Cacay Oil until I began using this gel. The oil is rich in Vitamin E, which helps keep strands moisturized and strong.

Shine Spray

Dry curls that lack moisture often appear dull and in need of a shine boost. I’ve struggled with lack of shine for many years, so when I found this spray, I knew I had to try it. The non-greasy shine spray is formulated with Castor Oil and Plumeria Flower Extract, which helps repair damage and protect from UV rays.

The results for me were luminous, springy curls. The brand claims it helps against humidity, but I still experienced some (I live in the South so there’s no escaping that.)

Heat Protectant

My curls are usually safe from the damaging effects of heat since I normally air dry them—at least that’s what I’ve always told myself. I have failed to take into account the number of times I’ve diffused my mane all in the name of extra volume before it’s completely dried. That’s why I jumped at the chance to try this product which was recently added to the Pattern Beauty collection.

One of the first things I noticed about the spray is how lightweight and non-greasy it is. The latter is especially important to me because I don’t want any buildup in my hair after washing/styling. The second thing I noticed is the bottle’s smooth texture, which made for an enjoyable consumer experience.

This heat protectant includes ingredients such as Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Sunflower Oil & Jojoba Oil.

Hair Clip

I love a good hair clip! This one has quickly become my favorite– it gives me an extra lift in the crown and matches any outfit. I never have to worry about my curls weighing down this sturdy clip. I hope the beauty line releases a mini clip that is as useful as this one!
