Living Proof has finally jumped on the curly hair train and launched its new Curl Collection. The range of products includes a shampoo, conditioner, curl enhancer, curl definer, defining gel, curl elongator, and moisturizing shine oil. It’s obvious with this line-up that they tried to cater to every type of curl except for those that love a co-wash because it “was not the most effective for the majority of curl types based on product usage, curl habits, and needs,” according to their website. I wonder what the “no-poo” community has to say about that…

Along with these stand-alone products, Living Proof packaged three starter kits for those hesitant (aka, me) about trying new curly hair products from a line that mainly caters to straight/wavy-haired women. Their kits include: the Born To Be Wavy Starter Kit, Born To Be Curly Starter Kit, and the Born To Be Coily Starter Kit. Considering my type 3b hair, I naturally went for the Curly Starter Kit. I’m glad I decided to wait to try this popular hair company until now when they created a formula that could cater to my curls.

Curl Shampoo

This creamy, truly low-lather shampoo is sulfate-free, silicone-free, color-safe, and safe for chemically treated hair. The consistency is on the thick-ish side and didn’t leave my hair feeling stripped, nor coated (I still needed conditioner afterward).

Curl Conditioner

This conditioner is very dense. If I put too much, it would leave my hair feeling bogged down. Although its consistency felt more like body lotion than a daily conditioner, the feeling went away once I styled my curls with the definer. This conditioner, along with the shampoo, has a rosy, sophisticated scent, like a strong perfume.

Curl Definer

This curl definer nourished my hair very well. It has a medium consistency, like that of a daily conditioner, and gave my curls a soft definition that lasted for 2-3 days. For more defined curls, use after applying their defining gel, or put a quarter-sized amount (I usually put a nickel-size amount).

At $29 a kit (originally $48), this trio isn’t the most expensive kit I’ve come across, but if you’re looking to buy the regular set, each bottle will set you back $28-$38.
